‘வெளிச்சம் விற்றுப் போகிறவன் rendered in English by

RADIANCE-SELLER
“Radiance here, come fast and buy, Radiance here, oh, come fast and buy”
Hearing the voice of the vendor who went cycling with his ‘Sompapdi’ jar at the carrier
those who came outside, bargained
and bought it suiting their pleasure and purse,
in small packets and left,
The jar with radiance emptied turned dark.
Now he had no radiance to sell.
When he cleaned the clouds that lay
all over the inner ceiling of the sky-roof,
with broom
The moon inside starting to shed radiance,
filling the jar with it,
looking at me and smiling
he slowly moves his cycle
to a place of darkness.

சோன்பப்பை ஜாடியை சைக்கிள் கேரியரில்
வைத்துக்கொண்டு சென்றவனின் குரல் கேட்டு
இருளில் இருந்து வெளியில் வந்தோர்
அவனிடம் விலைபேசி
வசதிக்கேற்ப வெளிச்சத்தைப் பொட்டலப் பொட்டலமாய்க் கட்டி வாங்கிக்கொண்டுபோக
வெளிச்சம் காலியான ஜாடி இருளானது
இப்போது விற்பதற்கு அவனிடம் வெளிச்சம் இல்லை.
வான் வீட்டுக்கூரையின் உள் முகட்டில்
ஒட்டடையாய் அப்பிக்கிடந்த
மேகத்தைத் துடைப்பத்தால் சுத்தம் செய்ததும்
உள்ளிருந்த நிலவு
வெளிச்சத்தை சொரியத் தொடங்க அதை
ஜாடியில் நிரப்பிக்கொண்டவன்
என்னைப் பார்த்துச் சிரித்துக்கொண்டு
சைக்கிளை மெல்ல நகர்த்துகிறான்
இருளான இடம் நோக்கி.
