உன் ஆடுகளை விற்றுத்தான் நீ என்னைப் பார்க்க
வர முடியும் என்ற தொலை தூரத்தில் என்னைக் கட்டி வைக்காதே
மனிதர்கள் வாழாமல் கடவுள்கள் மட்டும் வாழும் இடத்தில்
மணம் ஏற்பாடு செய்யாதே
காடுகள் ஆறுகள் மலைகள் இல்லா ஊரில்
செய்யாதே என் திருமணத்தை நிச்சயமாக
எண்ணங்களை விட வேகமாய்க் கார்கள் பறக்கும் இடத்தில்
உயர் கட்டிடங்களும் பெரிய கடைகளும் உள்ள இடத்தில்
வேண்டாம்
கோழி கூவி பொழுது புலராத முற்றமில்லாத வீட்டில்
கொல்லைப்புறத்திலிருந்து சூரியன் மலைகளில்
அஸ்தமிப்பதைப் பார்க்க முடியாத வீட்டில்
மாப்பிள்ளை பார்க்காதே
இது வரை ஒரு மரம் கூட நடாத, பயிர் ஊன்றாத,
மற்றவர் சுமையைத் தூக்காத,
கை என்ற வார்த்தையைக் கூட எழுதத் தெரியாதவன்
கையில் என்னை ஒப்படைக்காதே
எனக்குத் திருமணம் செய்ய வேண்டுமென்றால்
நீ காலையில் வந்து அஸ்தமன நேரத்தில் நடந்தே
திரும்பக் கூடிய இடத்தில் செய்து வை
இங்கே நான் ஆற்றங்கரையில் அழுதால்
அக்கரையில் உன் காதில் பட்டு நீ வர வேண்டும்...

Don’t get me married at a place so far that you will only come to see me
by selling your sheep
Don’t arrange a marriage for me at a place
where only gods live, not men
Let it not be in a town
where there are no woods nor mountains nor rivers
most definitely
Nor in a place where cars fly faster than thoughts
Or where there are high buildings
and huge shops
Please don’t seek a bridegroom for me
in a house where the dawn does not break
to the cock crowing in the front yard,
nor in a house where you cannot see the sun
setting beyond the mountains
from the backyard
Don’t hand me over to a man
who has never so far planted a tree nor sown a field
who has not carried other people’s burdens
who cannot even write the word, ‘hand’.
If you must get me married,
let it be at a place
to which you can walk in the morning
from which you can return at sunset.
If I weep by the shores of the river
you should hear it at the further shore
and come to me quickly.
