யூலியா கோர்த்தசாரின் Hopscotch நாவல் போன்ற வடிவத்தை உடையது மிலொரெட் பாவிக்கின் Last Love in Constantinople. பாவிக்கின் வடிவ உத்திகள் பிரசித்தமானவை, தனித்துவமானவை என்றாலும் அவை அவர் ஒவ்வொரு நாவலிலும் முன்வைக்கும் கலைப் பார்வையை மேம்படுத்துபவை, அவற்றோடு ஒன்றிணைந்தவை. வடிவ உத்தி, உத்தியாக மட்டும் துருத்திக்கொண்டிருப்பதில்லை. ஜோதிட அதிர்ஷ்ட அட்டைகளின் வழி கதை சொல்லுதல் இந்த நாவலில் சந்தர்ப்பங்களின் வழி வாழ்வும், சரித்திரமும், காதலும் கூடி வருவதைச் சொல்வதாகிறது. இந்த நாவலில் எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்த பத்தி:

In other words, happy people become stupid people. It is only when they get tired of their happiness that lovers can become wise again, if that is what they otherwise are.
